"So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
~Isaiah 41:10~
A couple days ago I was playing with my horse Toby and decided to bring him out in our yard to graze, Now typically when we go out of his field he is very worried. He will constantly be on the alert and looking around, and when there's a strange noise he's likely to spook. This time though we had played on ground first, and I could tell that he was connected to me and saw me as his leader. So out into the yard we went and he was more calm than he's ever been! He was relaxed and able enjoy munching on the green grass. There were several times where something happened that he would normally spook at, but he stayed calm and relaxed the whole time. I was so excited! This was a huge moment for him to trust me as leader enough to be calm out of his comfort zone.
My time with Toby that day made me think of how we can be with God. When we don't trust God fully our quality of life goes down. We constantly are on the lookout for anything and everything that could go wrong and try to figure out solutions. But this only tires us out and weighs us down. Like Toby when he didn't trust me as leader and tried to look out for himself, something that should be enjoyable becomes a stressful task. But when we put our whole trust in Christ, knowing that He can and will take care of us, we are able to rest and enjoy where God has us in the moment. When struggles and hard decisions come into our lives we can choose to fret and worry about them, which leaves us feeling tired and worn out, or we can put our trust in God, knowing that He is in control and will help us. When we choose to trust God and lean on Him we are strengthened. We can enjoy where He has us, knowing that even if hard times come He is in control and will guide us. When Toby trusted me he knew I would take care of him and he was free to rest in my company, and we are free to rest in God's presence at all times when we put our trust in Him.
So lay your burdens at our heavenly Father's feet, praise His Holy name, and rest in Him.
